Week 17

Here it is! My Stop-Motion final film:

or watch it on Vimeo in HD - http://vimeo.com/34498171

That film took me 16 hours, NO BREAKS, and I wanted to die.  The puppet was not well made AT ALL. Took tons of takes, but I can say that my NEXT puppet is not going to be made that crappy.

Week 17 has been a great week of Quique, AMAZING stop-mo student, teaching me how to make a mold!  It was great and I can't wait to finish my puppet.  He is by far the one student here who has taught me the most :)
and I wish his vimeo wasn't private so I could post some of his fuuccckkinng incredible films on here!

My puppet is inspired by this Twiggy photo I saw on tumblr:

Except I am going to have 3 Twiggy  heads on horizontal.

I first made a clay Twiggy head that cracked in the oven :(

So re-did it with REAL clay.. (no offense super sculpey)

Covered it in plasticine and acrylic to make a soft mold (Quique technique)

Made a cast for it out of plaster

then filled it in with epoxy to make the multiple heads!

Now I have to glue the heads together, clean em up, paint them, and start building the body (going to craft store tomorrow in LA for wire and supplies)

School starts in 2 weeks which is NOTHING! I have so much work and cleaning to do!
Been deciding what classes i'm going to take next semester, and watching a ton of Arrested Development in my room when at all possible.  Everything is going good, I need to start cooking real food more and I miss my kitties so much :(

Just look at this face, it's currently my desktop background

  1. 16 hours straight. That's brutal. I've done 10 hours max -- anything more than that and it's usually a disaster. Love the look of that puppet. :)

The Twiggy sculpt is coming along nicely. Too bad about that first sculpt it looked great. You're sculpt probably cracked because there was an air bubble in the foil. If you're using sculpey over foil, make sure to cover any possible pockets where air might get trapped. Bake it. And then start working on the actual sculpt.

Cool technique for making molds. I'm teaching myself how to do silicone molds at the moment. Definitely a learning curve. Getting there though.

Check out Douglas and Sturgess for armature wire. Very cheap. 100 ft of wire for $10. I buy all my stuff from them.
